Among the myriad of heinous viewpoints embraced by Donald Trump, the most disturbing position is his denial of climate change. First, it is a complete rejection of science, a theme that runs deep in his messaging and political positions. Second, and most concerning, is his willingness to completely ignore a grave threat that is imminent and irreversible. The damage that is being done as we take no actions to address this threat is literally putting everything at risk: our lifestyle, our health, and the future of our planet.
Disdain for Science
His disdain for this issue and the scientific evidence is reflected in the recent sarcastic tweet below.
I think it is very important for the Democrats to press forward with their Green New Deal. It would be great for the so-called “Carbon Footprint” to permanently eliminate all Planes, Cars, Cows, Oil, Gas & the Military – even if no other country would do the same. Brilliant!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 9, 2019
The statement regarding the so-called “carbon footprint” denies the science behind climate change. He then goes on to suggest that even if it were true, the cost is too great to deal with it.
Risking it all
The fundamental problem with Trump’s argument is his absolute denial of the potential consequences. When the destruction of the planet is the potential outcome, the probably of the event occurring better be zero. If climate change makes our planet uninhabitable for humans, the cost is basically infinite. As such, even if one thought that there is only a one percent chance that climate change will wreak havoc on our world in the next 100 years, the logical response is to take mitigating actions now.
Instead, the President appears to think only about today and the profits that are to be made currently. His disdain for the climate change issue is so fundamental that he attacks the opposition for proposing a plan to address it. In the end Donald Trump, who is 72, will die before climate change seriously impacts our world. It appears that he is willing to risk the well-being of subsequent generations, including his own children and grandchildren, for profit now. Perhaps this us what you get when you elect a reality-tv show-businessman President.
With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My website has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over theinternet without my authorization. Do you know any ways to help stop content from being stolen? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
